Cycling in Moravia

Cycling

South Moravia is one of the best regions for cycling in the Czech Republic. It is crisscrossed by some 1,200kms of marked trails known as the Moravian Wine Routes.

The landscape offers an infinite number of different routes to suit all levels of difficulty according to the visitor's skills. The majority of the paths run through the unspoiled countryside which is, for the most part, gently undulating along quiet roadways, through the meadows or woodland paths where you can travel by ordinary road going bicycle as well as on a mountain bike.

Most trails travel past rows of cellars and link the best known wine producing villages.

It is hard to imagine a more laid-back holiday than a cycle ride through the magnificent countryside of South Moravia, discovering its architectural gems, stopping off at wine cellars along the way and enjoying the best the region has to offer.

Cycling Trails

Cycling trails in South Moravia are marked with yellow directional signs comprising a bike icon and the trail number. All of them follow the pattern of having the destination names and an arrow in the relevant direction. The numbers in the small side box are the route designation. The numbers next to the names in the larger box are the distance in kilometres to that destination. Similarly to road signs, the cycling trail signs are installed in front of every crossroad or branch trail.

Other parts of South Moravia can also be explored on a bicycle. For example, the area of the Moravian Karst offers more than 200 kilometres of signed cycling routes, mostly in beautiful woods.

A good choice for cyclists is also to pass some parts of the route of the Bata Canal by bicycle and some others on the boat.
