Hiking in Moravia

Hiking

South Moravia is literally interlaced with a dense network of hiking trails of all lengths and difficulty levels. The native Czechs are keen, and some will say, serious hikers. Unlike other countries, Czech hiking is made easier by the fact that walkers and hikers have the right of way. This stems from the 40 years of Communism in the Czech Republic where private property was frowned upon. Locked away behind the Iron Curtain at this time, the restrictions on travel outside the Czech Republic lead to the hiking trails being well used.

Czech Walking Trails

The foundations of walking in the Czech Republic were laid down by the Czech Tourist Club over 100 years ago. An extensive network of hiking trails was created and marked out by hundreds of club members. Today the hiking trails are still maintained by Czech Tourist Club members on a voluntary basis. The system of marked hiking trails is considered to be one of the most developed and reliable in the world. The marking system is very easy to follow and you can find painted signs on posts, rocks and trees along the way. Orientation on them is easy and the idea is that they will take you to the most interesting places in the given locality. In the most important locations you will even find prepared special theme-based hiking circuits to ensure that you do not miss any of the attractions or information.

The hiking routes can be combined with boat rides, visiting of a wine cellar, a castle/chateaux tour or other attractions based on the area and your preferences.

For your journey we will equip you with a detailed map and/or description of each route together with some recommendations as to what to see depending on your interests.
